The tented camp on the banks of the Grumeti River, a stone’s throw from one of the most well-known fording points of the Serengeti, makes this a plum spot for easy Big Five viewing, especially during the Great Migration months of June or July. Camp-style meals that include platters of freshly-baked bread and cheese, zesty salads and personalised pizzas baked in stone ovens make it easy for guests to casually gather around and catch up on the day’s stories. Day game drives and night hunts that resemble scenes from 'Out of Africa' are yours for the taking, as are the morning water splashing and nighttime grazing of hippos as witnessed from an oversized pool deck. With a ruggedly rustic vibe (think earth-tone furniture and kerosene lamps), the camp blends into the bush unobtrusively. Karen Blixen would have felt at home here.
