Chef Octávio Freitas is best known for championing the regional cooking of his Portuguese island home. He is behind the Socalco Nature Hotel in Calheta, on Madeira’s south coast, where guests tuck into dishes based on seasonal produce grown in the kitchen garden and on nearby farms (other gastronomic-related activities include cooking classes, bread making and wine tastings). At our supper-club experience, he will introduce readers to his favourite Madeiran ingredients and delicacies which demonstrate why this Portuguese archipelago is evolving into a must-visit foodie destination.
Sommelier Dirceu Vianna will be on hand to offer local wine and spirit pairings – and there will be a chance to try the traditional, often potent, Poncha cocktail, made with aguardente de cana. For this exclusive event, we are opening the doors to the sleek, first-floor Vogue House boardroom in London, which is lined with black-and-white photographs from the Condé Nast archives. Guests will also have the opportunity to win a two-night trip to Madeira, staying at the Socalco Nature Hotel, with breakfast included.
