Admissions Process

(Please review Eligibility before beginning the Admissions process)

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with Sudbury education. You and your parents should familiarize yourselves with our school and the Sudbury philosophy by attending an informational session, visiting our website, and/or reading further on the model.

Come to a monthly informational session.

Blue Ridge Sudbury School is not open at this time. We hope to reopen in a new location by Fall 2008. The following steps are what is planned for applying students. We need to know that families are truly interested in Sudbury education, so join our mailing list and come to our informational meetings.

Step 2: Schedule an Overview of Blue Ridge Sudbury School education. You and your parents must set up a time to meet with staff at the school either during school hours or over the summer break. Leave a message on the phone (434-426-1866) or email us and we will get back to you to schedule a meeting during a convenient time.

Schedule an overview now.

Step 3: Fill out Admissions Forms for Student Visitation Week. A non-refundable fee of $125 is charged for a required 5 day visit to the school for prospective students. One hundred dollars of the fee will be applied to the total tuition due when you officially enroll as a student.

Step 4: Visiting Week. During the visiting week, you may participate in all school activities. As a visiting student, you may attend School Meeting, but you are not allowed to vote until officially enrolled. You are expected to follow all school rules. Staff is available to answer any questions you or your parents may have during this period.

Step 5: Schedule visiting week follow-up meeting. During this meeting, you, your parents, and members of the Admissions committee will discuss how the Visiting Week went and whether enrollment is an option. In order to be eligible for enrollment, the School Meeting members have to vote that they feel you are responsible enough to participate as a Blue Ridge Sudbury School student. You also have to want to attend (because if you don't, you should find a place where you do want to attend), and your parents have to feel that they, too, want you to attend and can trust you with your learning.

Step 6: Enrollment. When the school, your parents, and you mutually decide that Blue Ridge Sudbury School is a good fit, you will fill out the Enrollment Forms and have your parents decide on a tuition payment option (unless you can afford to pay for yourself, which at this point, none of our students can). You are then officially ready to attend Blue Ridge Sudbury School!
